Hello,

I notice that the parental controls on att yahoo internet service do not block out mature content entirely from the computer. What programs can i buy to protect my children from this junk? I know the temptation is there and i want piece of mind when i leave the house that they can’t view stuff they are not suppose too.

Also, do these programs slow down the computer?

Hi eblarios,

That is such a broad question.
Your needs and my needs may be quite different.

I would suggest as a starting point, this comparison of 10:
http://internet-filter-review.toptenreviews.com/?ttreng=2&ttrkey=parental+controls&OVRAW=parental%2520control&OVKEY=parental%2520control&OVMTC=standard
It not only compares 10 products (listing their costs), but also helps guide you about what to look for.

Respectfully,
TimF

I wouldn’t want to be a killjoy. But this site —> http://vnc.com/ (FREE)

lets you remotely access your computer from another. so you can watch what they are doing.

& if you buy the other version, you can record what they did on the screen, sorta like making a youtube video about what your kids are doing. Haha.

i am in the essay contest and it’s worth a lot of money. please help me, i have this so far.

Today’s menace is the internet. Why? , Because of many reasons. One of the reasons is inappropriate stuff, for instant picture and bad information. I think that the internet is one of the worst things ever because one time I went to go play a game and I searched it and what I didn’t expected to come up with the games search was some really inappropriate grown-ups stuff. All I could do was search something else. And don’t forget YouTube, can they ever child protect the really inappropriate stuff? Yes, the do, but it’s not just YouTube, many others. Have you ever gone on the computer and searched something and something else, that’s bad, inappropriate pops up? I bet you can all say yes to that, even I can. There are a lot of viruses in your computer, right? I do have some too. They make me want to go crazy. They make mine, and a lot of your computer and internet so slow, that all you can do is shut the computer off and leave that’s it. Pathetic, I come home, get on the computer to do my homework and the first that pops up is bad. Sometimes I can’t even log off, or anything, because the internet slows down when something bad, inappropriate, nonsense is on the page I clicked on. Say you wanted to go to Barbie.com, once you get started something pops up, unexpectedly, I call that crazy. Why? , why can people keep bad things off the internet? Don’t they see and know children, fifteen and younger get on the computer and search the internet? As people say, the children are our futures. Well, it’s not working if all people do is put dirt on the internet. Children are coming to school and talking about what they see. They sometimes get in trouble for that and get detention, suspension, and more. Parents, how would like it if your child is going around school, or anywhere else, but home saying things that they see. Inappropriate things they see. How can you and me and others learn and do school work if bad nude icons popping up out of no where? Take some time about the negative things about the internet, even if you are one of many other’s who think the internet is good. Think real hard, I know you know some negatives about it. Now, as you can see, there are a little bit more bad stuff on the internet, than there is good. I think, in my own opinion, believe that the internet is a faster way to look information, rather than looking in a book or a dictionary. It’s just that people are lazy. That’s why some smart intelligent people made the computer and the internet, for these reasons. I know the internet is bad; many of people don’t have a computer because they don’t want their children to see this terrible disgusting stuff

exampleessays.info

I use them always when I need help with choosing good topics or writing essays.

PS: they do not write essays instead of you – they provide writing guides that can be used to steer students in the right direction when composing their own essays.

I know how to look at the history report, but what if they clear after each use? Are there hidden files to check. Do I need special software to do this. I’m mainly trying to protect my 2 boys form all the filth on the internet. And for all you smart a**es out there I all ready have software to block most of the garbage. I just know kidds are not stubid. I was one. LOL
Thanks and you all have a fine day.

It is really not possible to make a check on the use of computer, if they are using an administrative account. I would suggest that you make a limited user account for them and keep the administrative password hidden from them. In a limited user account it is not possible to install new programs, or uninstall any. That will also keep them safe from getting any trojan infection from the internet. As most of the porno sites are breeding grounds of viruses, Using firefox browser with some useful plugins, such as blocksite and firekeeper can also help them online. In Firefox ,
Tools > Options > Security
select (Check each site with Google)

Blocksite – can let you block individual sites
firekeeper – alerts before you visit harmful sites

But if you really are concerned, you can get a freeware parental control software like X3watch which emails you the questionable links someone has visited on the computer. There are several others which generate a parental report like
Freesield, K9web protection and Crawler parental control.
All the names mentioned here have a free version of the software

Can anyone tell me how to put the internet onto my childrens computers and how to make it safe for them. How do I put on the parental locks and block them from going onto anything they should not be seeing.

I have 5 children all aged 12, 11, 9, 8 and 4.

The reason I want this is not because I do not trust them it is because when you search anything on the web it sometimes throws things up which you would not like them to see. I feel I can still protect them a little by making it safer for them.

When I say you search some things I mean if they search something and the computer throws something up as a search result not something I have looked at as I would not search something or go onto anything they should not be seeing.

There is a a great piece of software that can control all your kids viewings on the Internet. I believe it’s called Net Nanny. Really easy to use! Here is the link:

http://www.netnanny.com/

Or if you are looking for a free way to filter web viewings, go to Internet Explorer.

Click on Tools at the top.

Click Internet Options.

Click on the content tab.

On Content Adviser, Click Enable

You will be on the Ratings tab and use the slider to control the content. Go to the General tab at the top to assign a password so your kids can’t hijack this!

I have used both ways before and they work great!!

Also McAfee security centre software supports website blocking!

Also if you go to google you can find some software where it records what is being typed in the keyboard and takes regular snapshots too when it thinks the website is unsafe.
